Blackout Resilient Optical Core Network

A disaster may not necessarily demolish the telecommunications infrastructure, but instead it might affect national grid and cause blackouts, consequently disrupting network operation unless there is an alternative power source(s). In disaster-resilient networks, fiber cut, datacenter destruction, node isolation have been studied before with different scenarios, outage impact has investigated before. this paper, outages are considered, telecommunication performance evaluated during a blackout. mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) model developed to evaluate for single blackout under two scenarios: minimization of blocking renewable battery energy consumption. Insights analyzed from MILP results demonstrated trade-off between optimization cost functions shown that proposed scheme can extend lifetime while minimizing required amount backup energy.
